I have to say… Kolkata was the most liberal city we encountered in northern India. Lots of PDA (public displays of affection) such as hand holding to the point we actually saw young people in their late teens kissing and necking on the grounds of the Victoria Memorial (built in honour of Queen Victoria following her death). Up until this point in our journey, this kind of behaviour seemed to be totally taboo.
After my observation about the level of PDA at the Victoria Memorial, we saw this spectacle jaunting through the streets of Kolkata. We couldn’t resist following and sneaking a photo of this young flamboyant foreigner walking alongside a young (presumably) Indian guy.
Wherever they went, locals gawked, heads turned, jaws dropped. We followed them for a good 10 minutes, having a good laugh at all the reactions around them.
India is a colourful country, but this really takes it to the limit!! And yes, those are stretchy glitter pants.
I was tempted to ask her if we can take a picture with her. ;-)
